Application

Program Administration and Recognition Process

The Community Builders Program is a project of MSU and Leap. Together, the two organizations will identify companies and community organizations that meet the criteria. The Community Builders team will:

  1. Evaluate applications/nominations and forward them, with its recommendations, to the Community Builders review committee for a final decision
  2. Communicate to approved affiliates permission to use the Community Builders identifier
  3. Gather data each year on the nature and outcomes of the joint MSU-affiliate community building activity (via a brief survey instrument developed by MSU Office of Outreach and Engagement)

Acting under agreement as an agent for MSU, Leap may approve and manage the Community Builders' use of the university's registered Michigan State University wordmark. Recognition of an entity as a Community Builder does not represent-and may not be represented by a Community Builder as-an endorsement of any product, service, operation, or point of view. It is based solely on the above criteria and has the exclusive purpose of providing visibility for the connections between MSU and local companies and community organizations that are furthering economic and community development in the Greater Lansing region.

Community Builders Program Criteria

To be eligible for Community Builders designation, an entity must have or enter into an active engagement with MSU that:

  1. Is of sustained rather than time-limited (less than one year in length), or provides broad and enduring community impact
  2. Has mutual benefits for MSU and for the engaged entity
  3. Demonstrably advances regional economic development and quality of life
  4. Advances the public good
  5. Involves an identified MSU partner as a co-applicant

Community Builders may be for profit or not-for-profit; however, they must be entities and not individuals.
